The Art of Meditation – effortless practice for people today
Meditation is in complete contrast to daily life. It is a time when we let go, are drawn inward and open ourselves up to inner resources – qualities such as vitality, creativity, tranquillity and joy. Effortless meditation allows this to happen in a completely natural way. It is this that eludes so many, yet is easily attainable by all. The importance of personal tuition is to enable every student to have this experience.
The Benefits
The Benefits occur on many levels: physically, the body becomes healthier as stress levels are lowered and the immune system is strengthened; mentally, there is more energy and a greater ability to concentrate; emotionally, there is an increasing sense of inner security and self-worth; and spiritually there is a growing sense of calm and connectedness. The practices taught at the Centre are suitable for those of all faiths and beliefs.
Eliza Harrison runs a range of meditation courses at the Centre through Iuna Meditation. For more information about Introductory and Further Courses see: www.iunameditation.com

Gong Meditation CD
This is an ancient form of Tibetan meditation. When the gong is struck at specific intervals, the sound recedes becoming the subtlest of vibrations and we are taken into an exquisitely beautiful meditation. This high quality recording was made at the Centre to give people the experience of this meditation at home. Headphones are recommended unless you have good quality sound equipment.

FAQS
- Do I have to give up anything?
- There is no need for any change in lifestyle, diet or belief. All the benefits come from setting aside 15-20 minutes a day and meditation is a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
- Do I have to believe in it for it to work?
- No, meditation involves the use of a simple technique that allows a profound state of rest to be achieved and deep-rooted stresses to be dissolved – it works whether you believe in it or not.
- Do I have to sit cross-legged?
- No. Meditation can be practised lying down, kneeling or sitting comfortably in a chair.
- When do I expect to see benefits?
- Some people experience benefits within days and for others they emerge more gradually. Often the benefits come where you least expect them.
- Will meditation conflict with my faith?
- Not at all – people from different faiths learn meditation at the Centre. There is no belief system attached to the practice so there is no conflict.
- Will coffee or tea affect my meditation?
- We have delicious coffee, biscuits and different kinds of tea at the Centre and everyone has what they want. However it’s better to meditate before meals rather than after.
- Do I need a quiet place to meditate?
- General outside noise need not affect meditation, however a sudden disturbance may shock you as the mind and body become very still. People meditate in all sorts of places – on buses, trains, in cars and waiting rooms . . . anywhere you can sit down. You don’t need a special place.
- What can I expect from a day’s Introduction to Meditation?
- A relaxed, informal and interactive day and you won’t get bored!
- How do I time my meditation?
- Open your eyes and look at your watch. If it’s not time, close your eyes and continue with the practice. During meditation the mind is awake even though the body is in a deep state of rest.
